The beginnings of a foundation

Yesterday they started digging.  We went by there last night about 6:30 but there were men still there so we didn't stop.  Tonight when we went they were gone so we took some pictures.  They had dug out for the footings and poured the concrete for them so you can get an idea of the area of the house.  It doesn't look as big as I expected.  I'm sure it will be much different once they get the entire foundation down and some walls framed up.

Day 2

Yesterday we went by to see what had been done and they had placed a bunch of stakes in the ground.  The stakes show where our house will be sitting on the lot.  Very exciting!  Can't wait to see the foundation go in.  See, look at the picture and imagine a house instead.  I think Zachary is standing in the master.

End of day 1

At the end of the first day they had finished clearing the brush off of our lot and left some nice trees in the back yard.

Here's a picture of our soon to be next door neighbor's house.  Haven't met them but I'm told they have two kids.

Here's a view looking down the street at the other houses that are under construction.  Several of them are going to be finished in the next week or two.

While we were there, a man named Joe (see the white car down the street) came up and introduced himself.  He said he and his wife were building the house 3 lots down from us.  Their house is going to be finished in another week.  He said they will have completed construction of his house in 96 days!  Wow!

Pictures of house plans

Here's an image of what the house will look like.  It will be the reverse image of this however with the garage on the other side:

Here's an image of the unchanged plan:

Let the construction begin!

Well, I must be completely insane.  Historically, construction hasn't been kind to me, but I've always wanted to have a house built.  Anyone that has known me very long is aware of my sordid past with construction (a very long story).  But hey, it can only get better this time, right?  Knock on wood.

So, I spent the past month or two selling my house (lost money, not surprising), moving into a duplex (a tight squeeze) and meeting with the builder to iron at the details of the plans.  We also made a few modifications to the plans but I won't be able to scan the modified copy because it's very large so it will have to be a copy of the original... but you'll get the idea of it.

I received word today that they have started the house.  I did a drive by at noon and saw that they had some construction type vehicles clearing brush from the back of my lot.  I hope they are not bulldozing all the good trees.  Breath, Liz... it will be fine... no, surely they wouldn't tear them all down.  Hmmm... I will run over there after they leave today to see what's been done and take pictures.  Wish me luck.
