Been a few days!

Things have been busy with Halloween.  I did manage to take some photos on Thursday but didn't have time to post them.  Took some more yesterday so I'll just put both days on this posting.  They started putting shingles on the roof and as of yesterday, pretty much had them done except for a small section on the back of the house.  Here are the photos from Thursday.

Shingles were just getting started.

The transom above the back door was installed.  The window on the left was damaged and had to be reordered.

They also installed thee gas fireplace in the great room.

The arches have been done in some of the doorways throughout the house.

Here are the photos from yesterday.

The shingles are almost done.

The tub in the Jack and Jill bath was installed.

The short wall for the kitchen wall was framed.  Unfortunately they made it 46" instead of 42".  There was some discussion on what the correct bar height was.  The builder thought it was 42", then we decided 46".  I went home and measured my bar stools and sent his assistant an email to make it 42" but the framers didn't get the memo so they'll need to shorten it.

It's hard to see, but pretty much all the wiring has been done.  Gas lines have also been plumbed.  I had an extra gas line installed on the back deck area.  They are also running speaker wire for the surround sound.  Four speakers in the great room and two on the back deck.  Also an extra cable outlet on the back deck area.  They will also be installing a security system.

The shower pan and the jetted tub in the master have been installed.

So things are moving along nicely.  Of course there would have to be one fly in the ointment.  My neighborhood has these black street lights that are placed every so often down the street.  One of them is in the corner of my lot.  When I pulled up yesterday I noticed the pole was tilted at an angle.  When I took a closer look I could see that the pole has been completely broken at the bottom and when I touched it, it became obvious that it is probably going to fall into the street soon.  Judging from the damage it looks like a big truck struck it.  Probably the guy delivering the shingles.  I'm sure the crew let the builder know about it right away... haha.  I'm sure he won't be happy.

Framing is finished

They've finished framing up the house and put in most of the windows as well as the back doors.  I'm supposed to meet with the builder on Wednesday to walk through it and discuss any issues or changes before they start electric.  Everything looks good except for one closet that I want to make bigger.  I will probably ask him  to put extra exterior electrical outlets and maybe a gas line on the back deck.  I will also ask him about the plumbing for the sink again.

Wow... it's really looking like a house now

Today they got a lot done.  All the framing is done except some work they are doing on the eaves.  If you look at some of the previous pictures, you will notice that the rafters stop at the edge of the wall.  The roof on our house will have flared eaves so they have to sister on another piece to give it a curve at the bottom.  They also have most of the decking on the roof.  Hopefully they will get a alot done tomorrow because it is supposed to rain over the weekend and some next week.

Looking up into the bonus room.  I see they are cutting the stringers so hopefully they will build the stairs tomorrow so we can walk up there.

All the missing window openings have been added.

Here's a view of the back of the house.  We'll have a nice covered deck back here.

The bay window on the back of the master bedroom.

Framing almost done

Yesterday they couldn't work because of the rain.  Today they got back to it and the roof is almost done.

You can see the dormer for the bonus room over the garage now.  That room won't be completely finished but the builder will do the truss work, floor and stairwell so it won't require any structural work when I finish out that room later.

Framing continues

Still framing.  Today they started working on framing for the roof.  It's actually starting to look like a house now!  The builder still hasn't put in my missing window.

Day 2 of framing

Things are starting to take shape.  When you walk through it you can see where the rooms are now.  A few small things that aren't right.  Mostly stuff we changed and it looks like the crew didn't get the message.

There's supposed to be a window here.  Not really sure why they missed that, but it won't be hard to fix.

The plumbing for the sink shouldn't be here.  We moved it and they put it in the original spot.  Looks like we'll be cracking the slab.

Here's a shot of the front entrance.

The garage bays.

So exciting... they are finally framing!

Yesterday they poured the slab.  I didn't have my camera with me when I was there with Margie so I didn't take any pictures.  That's OK, because today there was alot more to see!  They started framing up the walls today and it's really nice because I can now get a sense of the space.  Tomorrow should be even better.

They also delivered some brick.  The brick I selected kind of looks like an antique brick.  It's called Williamsburg.  It was "extra" of course.

Almost ready to pour the slab!

Today they made the final preparations for pouring the slab.  They put wood forms around the perimeter and then put down some kind of white foam type board, then plastic vapor barrier and with a grid of wire on top.  I guess we're just wainting on the cement truck now!
